KCFC donates to St. George Anglican school

The St. George Anglican Primary School in the Ho Municipality of the Volta Region, has appealed for a school bus to cater to the transportation needs of its school children with special needs.

Headmaster of the school, Mr. Worlanyo Agbenyo lamented that accessibility issues ranked high due to the proximity of the school to the rest of suburban areas in the municipality.

Mr. Agbenyo who spoke to the Daily Graphic in an interview said the situation was further worsened due to the proximity of the school and the daily stigmatisation of the children by passengers who refused to share a ride with them.

“We have many of those kids in and around Ho but accessibility to the school remained a key issue to the extent that commercial vehicles have given up on plying the road which mostly leaves them stranded. Also most passengers avoid the children because of their special nature. So if a group can donate a mini-bus to enable us convey them to and from school, we will be grateful.”

Mr. Agbenyo made the appeal following a donation made to the school by Kikis Court Fan Club, a socially focused welfare group that handed over sanitary pads, stationery, hands sanitisers, among others, worth over Ghs 3000 to the school.

He expressed gratitude to the club for the donation and said before the kind gesture, “most our kids do not even have exercise books to write in, pen pencil so some in the class when you give them exercise, they don't actually take part. Sometimes the school has to buy and give to some few people. So as a school today, we are very grateful and we hope they put it good use,” he added.

He appealed to other corporate organisations can emulate KCFC and come to the aid of the school and its special education unit.

“This school has a special unit attached and in fact we need a lot of things to be able to run that school including teachers, so it would be very good if other Organisation can emulate them and come to our aid.

The group prior to the donation conducted a needs assessment which brought the St. George's Anglican Primary School into focus.

President of KCFC, Mr. Samuel Dilly said the group’s gesture was in cognisance of the need for the Ghanaian youth to be socially responsible. The group he said was gearing up to be the biggest social club in the country in order to effect higher positive social impact.

Founder of KCFC, Mr. Christian Adusu Donkor said the club was borne out of the need to witness the impact of youth activism and volunteerism on the development of their communities in the Volta Region and Ghana by extension.

"We were very interested to see how young people can help bring development to their various communities and not just wait for Central Government. It was an unending conversation which birthed the inspiration to form this group."

Other Activities

The over 200 member group has been instrumental in leading several development oriented programming and events in some communities in the region including the 2020  Hohoe Parliamentary debate which brought Parliamentary candidates closer to constituents, donated to the Volta Regional Hospital in Hohoe, showed love to Nursing mothers and children on admission at the hospital on Valentine's day.

Mr. Adusu said several other institutions in need were on the group's radar.
