Hotsui (Cowries)

A Wealthy man in the Ewe language is called "Hotsuitor" and it is derived from the two words "Hotsui" which means cowries and "tor" which means owner. So "Hotsuitor" literally means "Cowries owner" and this is because Cowries were one of the earliest currency used in Africa.

It was a legal tender for the payment of any amount among we African's.  And the more you had, the Richer you were deemed. Some families among the Ewe's are call "Hotsuitor" or "Gator" and is said that their fore fathers were so wealthy that they were popularly called as such.

Who knows how Cowries were gotten?

Some say it is the shell of a living organism and it resides in deep waters among other stories I intend to call superstition or myths for now until I do a proper research.

Who knows the story of where and how Cowries are made or created or gotten from?
